This past weekend I went on a camping trip with my closest friends. We camped at Joshua Tree National Park, and it was incredibly beautiful. The main attraction of Joshua Tree is the mountainous boulders that make perfect hiking trips. For the whole weekend, we went on the rocks and scrambled for hours. As we tripped and fell over the very uncomfortable cushions, I was curious as to how and why the rocks were there to begin with. In fourth grade all students learn about rocks, and whether you want to remember it or not, you know that rocks form because of lava and pressure and blah blah. How do they become spherical, though? And how did the rocks end up in the unpredictable mountain-like formations? Seeing the beautiful views made me feel connected to nature, and learning about the rocks and their formations would make that connection even stronger.
