Are Details Necessary?

As I was reading the paper written by Beth Johnson, I could clearly see the point that she was trying to make.  Throughout the paper she provides proof as to why concrete details in writing is better than vague responses.  With each example I was more and more interested in what each paper was saying.  The first of each set was a lot more basic, but the second had much more description with a better insight.  I want to know why our minds are attracted to that sort of thing.  One could think that humans would appreciate things that are short and straight to the point, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.  Why are we subconsciously attracted to the more descriptive writing?  What mindset do we take on when reading descriptive versus non descriptive writing?
